Out in the Dark is as much a political and societal commentary as it is an original romantic story. Compelling and intimate, Michael Mayer`s taut first feature follows a border-crossing relationship between an Israeli lawyer and an increasingly desperate Palestinian student. Nimer, an ambitious Palestinian student in the West Bank, dreams of a better life abroad. One fateful night in Tel Aviv, he meets Roy, an Israeli lawyer, and the two fall in love. As their relationship deepens, they are both confronted with the harsh realities of a Palestinian society that refuses to accept Nimer for his sexual identity, and an Israeli society that rejects him for his nationality. When Nimer`s close friend is caught hiding illegally in Tel Aviv and sent back to the West Bank where he is brutally murdered, Nimer is forced to choose between the life he thought he wanted and his love for Roy.

Der palästinensische Student Nimr und der israelische Rechtsanwalt Roy: Trotz der prekären sozialen und politischen Lage in der sie sich befinden, verlieben sie sich in einander. In der weltoffenen und toleranten Stadt Tel Aviv können sie "sich selber" sein, alles wirkt wunderbar. Dieser Eindruck wird jedoch sehr schnell zerstört, die realen Probleme und der harte Alltag dieser Weltregion werden auf brutale Art und Weise klargestellt... "Out In The Dark" ist ein weiterer genialer Film aus Israel der in der Tradition der Filme wie "The Bubble" oder "Yossi und Jagger" daherkommt. Es geht um Ungerechtigkeit, Hass, Intoleranz. Eine Liebe zwischen zwei Menschen die so viele Hindernisse überwinden muss, wie sie eigentlich niemand ertragen kann. Die Hauptdarsteller sind alle mehr als glaubwürdig, die Ausführung lässt nichts zu wünschen übrig. Ein sehr empfehlenswerter Film, der einen nicht kalt lassen sollte...

Ausgezeichnetes Drama aus Israel. Eine Geschichte, welche ans Herz geht und einem einmal mehr bewusst macht, wie gut wir es in der westlichen Welt grad was das Thema Gay betrifft haben. Sehr sehenswert
