The story has Sanjuro (Mifune) running lazy rings around nine naïve and clean-cut samurai and two genteel ladies, whilst also cleaning up a spot of corruption in local government. Whilst Kurosawa plays most of it for laughs, expertly parodying the conventions of Japanese period action films, he stages a startling switch of mood with an intense finale which may well be the briefest, and most breathtaking duel in all cinema.

Ein brillianter Toshiro Mifune. Ein Film mit Witz und Action( relativ). Ein muss für jeden Martial Arts Fan.

Le duo Mifune/Nakadai fonctionne à merveille,

avec ce film mélant chambara et humour, le spectateur est emmené dans un périple passionant mené en main de chef par un Mifune au sommet de son art !

Un film d'une qualité redoutable avec ses rebondissements rigolo et ses scènes ,une fois drole,une fois emouvante.Un film d'une qualité redoutable grace,notamment a la performance de M.Toshiro Mifune très fidèle a ses habitudes,qui nous envoute dans son personnage nonchalant mais très malin.Un film qui envoie un message pacifique que nous ferions bien d'écouter.
