On this CD the young Tuscan pianist Pietro Bonfilio presents five of the most beautiful Preludes by Claude Debussy, and some compositions by the two Soviet composers Dmitrij Sostakovic and bis unfartunate pupil German Galynin.
Let's start with Debussy (1862-1918), whom Svjatoslav Richter - in his persona! list of preferences - placed in the first places together with Fryderyk Chopin far their revolutioruu:y raie in the treatment of the piano: author of non-programmed works, therefare not illustrative and non -desc riptive, music made of sounds, pure music.
Unlike some more famous compositions far both orchestra and piano, which have unmistakable titles or subtitles (La Mer, Nocturnes with three movements: Nuages, Fetes, Sirènes or Estampes made up of Pagodes, La soirée dans Grenade, Jardins sous la pluie), the two Notebooks of Préludes have titles but they are indicated only at the end of each piece, in brackets and after the dots. This cycle of twenty-faur "preludes", which certainly do not correspond to previous models of the genre, was created by Debussy in the years 1909-1913, recalling the homonymous work by Chopin and Bach, without taking into account the keys. The preludes were published in two collections of twelve pieces each, entitled simply Premier livre and Deuxiè-me livre.
