Niccolo Farra, cinéaste renommé, est en quête d`un visage féminin pour son prochain film. Il s`éprend de Mavi, une jeune aristocrate mais celle-ci semble se détacher de lui. Un inconnu s`intéresse à elle et harcèle Niccolo pour le persuader de rompre cette liaison. Puis Mavi disparaît. Niccolo rencontre alors Ida, une jeune comédienne qui va l`aider à retrouver la disparue.
