Lucy et Barkley Cooper réunissent leurs enfants pour leur annoncer qu`ils risquent de perdre leur maison s`ils ne trouvent pas rapidement une somme relativement importante. Ils est finalement décidé de Lucy ira abiter chez George, et Barkley chez Cora, le temps que Nellie ait un appartement assez grand pour les héberger ensemble. La cohabitation s`avère vite difficile.
