Contacté par un vieil ami de son père, Nick Carter Junior, fils du célèbre détective de New-York, arrive sur la Côte d’Azur. Didier Formenter, scientifique de renom, a fait appel à lui car il craint pour sa vie depuis qu’il a inventé une arme secrète mais déjà très convoitée par divers gangsters. Nick Carter mène l’enquête et va rapidement découvrir qui sont les réels ennemis de l’inventeur.
