Un poeta russo compie un viaggio in Italia in cerca delle tracce di un musicista suo compatriota che era stato, nel `700, esule nello stesso paese. Lo accompagna una giovane interprete italiana. Il poeta scopre, con un misto di esaltazione e di delusione, quei capolavori dell`arte che aveva conosciuto soltanto attraverso le riproduzioni su libri.
