    Regisseur Stephen Frears hat einmal mehr sein Herz für sozial brisante Stoffe entdeckt und schildert mit diesem Drama einen ungeschönten Einblick in den Alltag der Arbeiterschicht der dreißiger Jahre. Das Ganze geschieht gekonnt aus dem Blickwinkel eines Kindes.
