Il film racconta l’ultimo periodo della vita della grande attrice e cantante Judy Garland, sul finire di una carriera sfolgorante iniziata giovanissima con la Dorothy del Mago di Oz. Un mix di fama e successo, fra Oscar® e Golden Globe, e poi la battaglia con il suo management, i rapporti con i musicisti, i fan, i suoi amori tormentati e il dramma familiare che la spinse a fare i bagagli e a trasferirsi a Londra.
