Dieci anni dopo la liberazione dei campi di concentramento nazisti, il regista ritorna sui luoghi dove avvenne l`orrore dell`Olocausto, Auschwitz e Majdanek. Passato e presente si alternano in quegli stessi luoghi tra riprese e fotografie in bianco e nero, effettuate dai tedeschi qualche anno prima, e filmati a colori di campi quieti ed edifici abbandonati dove i turisti si fanno le foto e dove l`erba può ancora crescere. Il trasporto dei deportati su treni simili a carri-bestiame, gruppi di donne che si dirigono alle camere a gas, i lavori per la costruzione dei forni crematori, i mucchi di cadaveri... Chi è il responsabile?
