Johnny Worricker (Bill Nighy) is a long-serving M15 officer. His boss and best friend Benedict Baron (Michael Gambon) dies suddenly leaving behind him an inexplicable file threatening the stability of the organization. Meanwhile a seemingly chance encounter with Johnny's striking next-door neighbor and political activist Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz) seems too good to be true. Johnny is forced to walk out of his job and then out of his identity to find out the truth. Set in London and Cambridge PAGE EIGHT is a contemporary spy film for the BBC which addresses intelligence issues and moral dilemmas peculiar to the new century.

Meiner Meinung nach ist dies (ausser der tollen Jazz Musik die in dem Streifen vorkommt), eine der langweiligsten Filme überhaupt. Da helfen auch keine guten Darsteller...sorry!

In dieser Agenten-Produktion geht es nicht nur um spooks, sondern auch um machtinterne Messerstechereien, die in einem post-Irak-Klima eine seltsam klandestine Stimmung aufkommen lässt. Und immer wieder die Frage, ob der Zweck die Mittel rechtfertigt. Fazit: Obwohl ein TV-Film, ist er vom Storyverlauf, der cast und den Requisiten einer Kinoproduktion durchaus ebenbürtig und war folgerichtig auch in GB durchaus ein veritabler Erfolg. Dazu tragen auch die Darsteller bei (insbesondere B.Nighy). Vom Rhythmus der Inszenierung eher im Stil von J.LeCarre (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), aber eher in der jüngeren Vergangenheit angesiedelt. Besser im O-Ton.
