In this coming-of-age story, Erica Clements's blessed life is turned upside down by her mother's death and her father's subsequent depression, which leaves them financially destitute. Her nemesis, Marcy Spencer, moves into the luxury cottage she once called home, sending Erica further into a downward spiral.
