On a lake set in a valley in the depths of the mountains sits an isolated dwelling. Here, a Buddhist monk and his young apprentice live in harmony with nature.

As the seasons change and the years pass, the carefree child apprentice becomes a young man filled with desire. Despite the continuing wisdom that his master imparts, the young man finds he is emotionally unprepared for the arrival of a young woman. Dealing with feelings of guilt and jealousy, he is forced to confront a darker side of his nature and, resolving to cleanse himself, he serves a penance in the form of a religious mantra. Later, as winter comes and death makes way for new life, the man prepares to take on the role of teacher...

ein wunderschöner film mit bezaubernden bildern und ruhiger musik, so dass man gar nicht anders kann, als sich nach einem einfacherem leben zu sehnen. zugleich wird einem aber klar, dass jede art zu leben nicht einfach ist....

Kim Ki-Duk (Seom, Samaria) hat einen wirklich eindrücklichen Film geschaffen, der die 4 edlen Wahrheiten sowie das Rad des Lebens, die Grundlagen buddhistischer Erkenntnis, mit der Vergänglichkeit der 4 Jahreszeiten bildlich umsetzt. Dabei schafft Kim Ki-Duk viel Raum für eigene Interpretationen und Assoziationen, regt zum Denken an und lässt genug Zeit diese reifen zu lassen. Wie bei fast all seinen Filmen, erzählen die Bilder und nicht der Dialog die Geschichte. Die Handlung treibt oft unspektakulär vor sich hin, getragen von Symbolik und Einfachheit wobei er Bilder einfängt die so schön sind das man sie am liebsten an die Wand hängen möchte.

„Frühling, Sommer..." ist ein emotional komplexer Film der das Talent des Regisseurs beweist, obwohl ich ehrlich gesagt nach Seom und Bad Guy etwas mehr von Kim Ki-Duk erwartet hatte. Zwar ist dieser Film wunderschön verpackt, aber stellenweise doch etwas langatmig.

In diesem Film wird kaum gesprochen, weshalb auch, wenn man die Bilder sprechen lassen kann und das auch tut. Sehr schön dieser Wechsel der Jahreszeiten und den parallel dazu verlaufenden Entwicklungsstufen.
