Anne Elliot (Sally Hawkins) fell deeply in love with the handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth (Rupert Penry Jones) at the age of nineteen. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne was persuaded to break off her engagement. Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Wentworth, and when he returns from sea with fortune and rank, she can only watch as every eligible young woman in the district falls at his feet.

Schon als junges Mädchen waren Anne Elliot und Frederick Wentworth ineinander verliebt, und als sie im richtigen Alter waren, haben sie sich verlobt. Annes mütterliche Freundin Lady Russell allerdings überredet sie, aus finanziellen Gründen die Verlobung zu lösen. Enttäuscht verlässt Wentworth Anne und fährt zur See, wo er sich bis zum Captain hocharbeitet. Fast acht Jahre vergehen, als sich die beiden wieder sehen. Annes Familie leidet an finanzieller Not und Anne scheint als "alte Jungfer" niemals unter die Haube zu kommen. Kann Captain Wentworth Anne verzeihen? Kann Liebe eine so lange Trennung überdauern?

    Ein wunderbarer Roman zauberhaft und romantisch verfilmt. Nur zu gerne würde man in die Rolle der Heldin schlüpfen!
