Coming out of the closet may never be easy, and MAMBO ITALIANO takes a comedic look at why it may be even harder for first generation Italian-Canadians. Angelo, son of Italian immigrants, realizes at a young age he`s gay, and so does everyone else in his Montreal elementary school. Yet somehow his family remains in the dark. After thirty years of living at home with his naive parents and garish sister Anna, Angelo decides to get his own apartment. A burglary re-acquaints Angelo with Nino, his childhood friend, now a hardbody twentysomething cop. Nino and Angelo quickly fall in love and Nino moves in, but they decide to keep it a secret from their families. After a disastrous dinner party, chaos ensues, sending Angelo and Nino into a vortex of identity politics. The film`s colourful sets stand out, decorated with ostentatious wall patterns that reflect Anna's Fendi-esque wardrobe and the bright hues of the landscape. The film exaggerates other various Italian-immigrant stereotypes for comedic effects, but works hard to earn endearing moments of family loyalty, self-searching, and love.

Fifty years ago, Gino and Maria came to Canada, and never quite recovered. gut ! year, der film hats wirklich in sich.ich kann ihn auf jedefall nur weiterempfehlen.vom schmunzeln bis zum lacher ist wirklich alles dabei,unterhaltung pur
ich find man muss nicht wirklich gay sein um den film zu lieben. ;)
einer der filme die man öfters weder 1-2 mal sehen kann
er ist wie schon unten eimal jemand gesagt hat auch ein ganzer spass für die familie

Dieser Film hat alles, was ein guter Film braucht: Eine Story mit Tiefgang, gute Schauspieler und viel Humor. Die Lebenssituation eingeschworener Einwanderernachkömmlinge - hier sind es die Italiener in Kanada - wird überzeugend und realistisch dargestellt. Hinzu kommt noch das generelle Problem homosexueller Menschen in der Gesellschaft. Doch die Geschichte hat auch so viel Komik - und ein paar rührselige Momente - daß es einfach nur Spaß macht, diesen Film anzuschauen. Sehr zu empfehlen!!!

Grossartige Familienkomödie mit alltäglichen Situationen einer gleich-geschlechtlichen Romanze. Von Schmunzeln bis totlachen alles drin. Endlich auch in deutscher Version(code2) ist somit günstiger und überall zu kriegen...
