amanda gris is a popular romance writer in spain. she writes "routine, self-indulgent sentimentality" that uses phrases such as "the flower of my secret" to describe certain delicate portions of the female anatomy. gris is the penname for leo, a woman who is at her wits end; she doesn't want to write fluff any more and she wants her husband paco, to return from duty and back to her bed. neither seems likely as her publisher doesn't like her new dramatic tome and her husband is as aloof as ever. when she takes the work to a local editor of the arts and literature section of the newspaper, she finds not only an admirer of her work but also a paramour. this is a kinder, gentler pedro almodovar than we've ever seen and he treats the characters with dignity and care.

Leocadia Marcia detta Leo che, con lo pseudonimo di Amanda Oris, scrive romanzi rosa di successo, sprofonda in una duplice crisi: sta per essere abbandonata dal marito amatissimo e non ne può più di scrivere romanzetti.
