In director Todd Holland`s family film FIREHOUSE DOG, Hollywood`s top canine star, Rexxx (played by a number of Irish terriers), is forced out of his pampered lifestyle when an accident leaves him far from home and presumed dead. Taken in by Shane (Josh Hutcherson), the son of a firehouse captain (Bruce Greenwood), Rex becomes the struggling fire department`s unlikely mascot, and is gradually forced to give up his snooty behaviour while embracing the selfless and daring duties involved in firefighting. And as the stubborn Shane forges a bond with Rexxx, he also begins to heal the rift with his sullen, hard-working father.

Rexx ist der coolste Hund der Welt und hat aufgrund seiner aussergewöhnlichen Talente in Hollywood Karriere gemacht. Doch bei den Dreharbeiten zu seinem neusten Film geht ein Stunt schief und der Celebrity Dog stürzt ab. Während ihn die Crew für tot hält, ist Rexx sicher auf einem Tomatenlaster gelandet. Er lernt den 12-jährigen Shane kennen, dessen Vater eine heruntergekommene Feuerwache leitet. Shane ist zunächst alles andere als begeistert von dem cleveren Vierbeiner, doch mit seinen aussergewöhnlichen Tricks kann Rexx den Jungen schnell für sich gewinnen. Gemeinsam bringen die beiden Freunde wieder Schwung in die Feuerwache und heften sich an die Fersen des mysteriösen Brandstifters ...
