Seven years after being forced to resign as a New York police officer, private detective Billy Taggart (Wahlberg) takes on his toughest case yet: following the wife (Zeta-Jones) of the city`s hard-nosed mayor (Crowe), who`s convinced she`s cheating on him. But by the time the mayor reveals his true intentions, Billy is already in too deep. Now, with his freedom - and quite possibly his life - on the line, Billy will risk it all in a desperate bid to expose the truth, and seek redemption in a city where second chances don`t come cheap.

Billy Taggart è un ex poliziotto di Brooklyn, convertito per necessità a detective privato. Quando il sindaco Hostetler lo ingaggia, in piena campagna elettorale, per indagare sulla moglie che sospetta di adulterio, Billy s`infila senza accorgersene in una trappola che lo porterà a fare i conti con le lusinghe e i ricatti del potere ma anche con il proprio passato e con i debiti rimasti in sospeso.

Die Story ist gut gemeint aber die Umsetzung streckenweise langweilig und vorhersehbar. In der Mitte des Filmes wirft man mit Namen nur so um sich und man muss gut überlegen wer was wie weshalb gemacht hat. In diesem Film fehlte für mich die Spannung. Aufgewertet wird dieses lauhe Lüftchen einzig durch 3 Weltklasse Schauspieler ansonsten wäre ich wohl eingechlafen daher auch ein

Der Leitfaden der Geschichte ist nicht schlecht, da sie sicherlich nahe dran ist an der Realität. Insbesondere solche Städte, bei denen Immos von einem hohen Level aus starten und laufend irrwitzige Steigerungen erzielen (z.B. London; N.Y; Paris;etc.) sind solche Parallelen gut denkbar. Fazit: Darstellung ist o.k., auch Erzählrhythmus. Aber mir hat ein raffinierter Twist gefehlt. Schon zu Beginn des Films ist ziemlich klar in welche Richtung sich alles bewegt. Dadurch bleiben einem Klischees nicht erspart. "City Hall" ist dieser Produktion ähnlich. Da hätte man mehr daraus machen können. Für mich bestenfalls ein "nicht schlecht - gut".
