After a horrific car accident, Anna (Christina Ricci) wakes up to find the local funeral director Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) preparing her body for her funeral. Confused, terrified and feeling still very much alive, Anna doesnt believe she is dead, despite the funeral directors reassurances that she is merely in transition to the afterlife. Eliot convinces her he has the ability to communicate with the dead and is the only one who can help her. Trapped inside the funeral home, with nobody to turn to except Eliot, Anna is forced to face her deepest fears and accept her own death. But Annas grief-stricken boyfriend Paul (Justin Long) still cannot shake the nagging suspicion that Eliot is not what he appears to be. As the funeral nears, Paul gets closer to unlocking the disturbing truth, but it could be too late; Anna may have already begun to cross over the other side. With an unrelenting edge of menace, After.life is a stylish psychological thriller which provocatively questions the line between life and death.

In seguito ad un terribile incidente, Anna si sveglia nel retro di un`agenzia di pompe funebri, dove Eliot Deacon sta preparando il suo corpo per la sepoltura. Anna si sente ancora perfettamente viva, ma l`uomo la convince di essere l`unico a poter comunicare con lei, grazie alle sue particolari capacità di sensitivo: la ragazza si troverebbe infatti in uno stato transitivo tra la vita e la morte. Anna dovrà affrontare le sue più profonde paure ed accettare di essere davvero morta oppure cercare di ribellarsi per non essere seppellita viva? Ma il fidanzato di Anna, nutre il sospetto che le cose non siano come sembrano e che Eliot non sia amichevole come appare...

    Fast bis zum Schluss des Streifens wird da metaphysisch/physisch zweigeleisig gefahren - doch letztlich geht es nicht auf: Ist sie nämlich NICHT tot - kann sie die Toten nicht sehen; ist sie hingegen tot - könnte sie durch Wände gehen. So wie gezeigt funktioniert das Zwischenreich jedenfalls nicht - auch wenn einige Elemente der Sterbe- und Nahtodforschung richtig eingefügt worden sind. Doch letztlich wirkt alles etwas arrangiert und ästhetisch (zu) wohl aufbrereitet. Richtig gut kommt dann aber eigentlich nur die Ricci. Da geb ich meinen Vorgängern recht: Mehr gibt es da tatsächlich nicht zu sehen - dafür das umso reichlicher...

    Ein sehr origineller Horrorfilm, abseits der gängigen Folterpornos und Teenie-Slasher.
    Insgesamt ein äusserst spannendes Kammerspiel mit einem bösen Ende. Sehr gut gespielt und toll inszeniert.
    Für Fans von "Calvaire" und Co ein Pflichtfilm.

    ganz nett anzusehen und stimmig.
    Von Neeson wird schauspielerisch nicht viel abverlangt, Christina Ricci ist DER HAMMER.
