Realising that she is at a crossroads in her life, bored twenty-something Tokyo office worker Taeko heads back to the countryside. The trip dredges up forgotten memories: the first stirrings of childish romance, puberty and growing up, the frustrations of maths and boys. In lyrical switches between the present and the past, Taeko wonders if she has been true to the dreams of her childhood self.

Ein eher gemächliches Werk von Studio Ghibli. Fast keine Spannung dafür viel Gefühl und Einblick in das japanische Leben.

Isao Takahata (Das Grab der Glühwürmchen) besticht mit dieser 1991 entstandenen einfühlsamen Studie übers Erwachsenwerden im Japan zwischen Tradition und Moderne, zwischen Stadt und Land.
Mit seinem schlichten aber exakt beobachteten Realismus geht er bewusst andere Wege als sein langjähriger Partner Hayao Miyazaki, trotzdem haben sie sich beide gegenseitig sowohl beeinflusst als auch auf ihrem künstlerischen Weg bestärkt.
Wenn auch unspektakulär so doch unbedingt sehenswert!
