bruno dumont's (life of jesus) visionary and hauntingly powerful film tells the story of pharaon de winter (emmanuel schotte), a police detective who lives with his mother in a working-class town in northern france. with astonishing and raw sensitivity, pharaon agonizes over the evil he must confront every day during the course of his work. his latest case is the brutal rape and murder of an 11-year-old-girl, a crime so barbarous that pharaon reels from the madness of it, struggling to grasp its meaning. as the investigation proceeds to its startling climax, pharaon's profound humanity is tested to its limits.

Très beau film philosophique sur la nature humaine. Dumont arrive a plonger le téléspectateur dans un questionnement existentiel sur ce que l'Homme peut avoir de meilleurs et de pire. La maîtrise du scénario, la justesse de la réalisation ainsi que l'interprétation de l'acteur principal (Emmanuel Schotté) en font un film d'une grandeur exceptionnelle. Merci Dumont!!

Ein seltsamer Film, bei dem jede Szene in die Länge gezogen scheint. Es passiert wenig, mal abgesehen von einigen äusserst expliziten Sexszenen, die nicht so recht in die Geschichte reinpassen.
