Una combinazione di eccentrica comicità e di perfida suspense! Il dottor Robert Thorndyke è il neo-direttore di un istitito psichiatrico per pazienti molto, molto nervosi. Non appena si rende conto delle forze maligne e sinistre che operano nell`istituto realizza di soffrire di acrofobia che lo fa diventare nervoso quasi quanto i pazienti che lui tiene in cura. Ogni nuova esperienza esilarante e vertiginosa lo porterà al la fine a superare la sua paura del vuoto e alla cattura dei colpevoli che sono dietro al complotto che vuol rovinare sia lui che il manicomio. Scandita da ritmi velocissimi questa è una commedia davvero divertente.

In this outrageous homage to Hitchcock thrillers, Mel Brooks plays renowned Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Richard Thorndyke, a nut-job with a paralyzing fear of heights, who's just become head of the Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very Very Nervous. After the jittery doc leans that his predecessor died under suspicious circumstances, he looks for help form his resentful associate (Harvey Korman) and his evil head nurse (Cloris Leachman) - who, not surprisingly, offer no help. To make matters worse, events take a murderous turn, and Thorndyke is accused of the crime.

    Der Hotelpage bringt dem Herr Professor die Zeitung und sticht auf ihn ein wie mit einem Messer. Der gleiche Soundtrack, wie bei "Psycho" von Alfred Hitchcock. Die Zeitungsschwärze färbt sich unter dem fliessenden Wasser genauso ab, wie das Blut bei Psycho und selbst die Duschvorhangstange reisst er runter. Trotzdem gut kopiert.

    Alles einbisschen übertrieben. Absolut unrealistisch. Mit der Zeit sogar langweilig.
    Mel Brooks hat schon bessere Filme gemacht.

    Dieser Film ist dem "Meister der Spannung"/Alfred Hitchcock gewidmet. Folglich bringt Mel klassische Szenen in den Film rein. Zum Beispiel "The Birds": Man kann sich ja vorstellen was Vögel in einem Mel Brooks Film machen. Der Film ist gut gelungen. Aber lange nicht der Beste Mel Brooks Film!
