Movement is the debut studio album by English rock band New Order, released on 13 November 1981 by Factory Records. Recorded following the suicide of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis the previous year, the album is a continuation of Joy Division's dark post-punk sound, featuring increased use of synthesizers while remaining predominantly rooted in rock. Upon it's release, the album was not particularly well received by critics and commercials, reaching only number thirty in the UK Albums Chart; the band would gradually shift towards a more electronic sound over the following year. In the decades since it's release, retrospective critical reception has been very positive, with reviewers praising the album as a middle ground between the band's work as Joy Division and their later alternative dance material. Slant Magazine placed the album at number 42 on it's list of "The Best Albums of the '80s", stating that it "sits almost exactly halfway between Joy Division's post-punk sound and the synth-pop style that would define New Order and influence pop music for decades."

    Die Mischung aus Punk,Elektro-Beats,Synthie-Pop und Disco kommt hier besonders gut zur Geltung und ist für mich eines der besten Alben der Band von Manchester.

    tönt noch sehr nach joy division. ein solides werk, allerdings nicht das alleinige non-plus-ultra. roger's "truth-hysterie" versteh ich zudem nicht ganz. ok, der song ist ganz hübsch und hat tolle lyrics, aber das trifft auf viele NewOrder songs zu. trotzdem: höchst empfehlenswerte scheibe, unbedingt mal reinhören!! NewOrder vor der synthie-pop-welle..

    klar, geschmacksache denkt nun jeder - aber nur, wer 'Truth' noch nie bei voller lautstärke gehört hat..........
