Philippe Noiret, Romy Schneider and Jean Bouise star in this war drama directed by Robert Enrico. Julien Dandieu (Noiret) is a pacifist and a surgeon living in Montauban, France, who loves his wife Clara (Schneider) and his daughter. In 1944 he continues to provide treatment to fellow members of the French Resistance despite the risks but, fearing the imminent arrival of German troops, he sends his wife and daughter to a remote village where he owns a château for their safety. When he arrives a week later, he finds that the Germans have occupied the village and his family have been brutally killed. Driven mad with grief, he is determined to avenge them and so he embarks on a mission to kill as many German soldiers as he can. The cast also includes Joachim Hansen, Robert Hoffmann and Karl Michael Vogler.
