Vividly recreating a medieval world tormented by plague and superstition, Bergman’s allegorical drama – centred on a knight (Max von Sydow), returned from the Crusades, who challenges Death to a game of chess in order to postpone his demise – remains fascinating (and finally rather touching) as a study of faith in crisis. Packed with powerful images, it punctuates its bleakness with moments of wry humour. A Jury Prize winner at Cannes upon its release, the film remains one of the must-see masterworks of world Cinema.

    This is a great movie;
    it brings to think about
    the death and the big
    play of our lifes.
    An "hore-d'oevre" from
    I.Bergman!

    Ich habe mit dem schlimmsten gerechnet und wurde positiv überrascht. "Das siebente Siegel" ist keineswegs langweilig oder anmassend sondern ein enigmatischer aber letztendlich schlüssiger Film über die Suche nach Gott und Sinn im Leben.

    Mir hat die Story dieses Films sehr gut gefallen. der Tod spielt schach gegen den Ritter Antonius Block der Gerade aus den Kreuzzuegen zurueckgekehrt ist. zu jedem Realen Realen ereignis kommt etwas surreales mit dem Tod hinzu. Sehr gut gefallen hat mir die szene wo der Tod den Baum umsaegen will. Ausch visuell hat der Film einiges zu bieten. Wer bergman mag soll Fanny und alexander schauen. ist auch genial...
