The latest in 88 Films Italian line, Romero's outstanding opening salvo offers us an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar", highlighting the sublime Scream Queen Adrienne Barbeau (THE FOG/ SWAMP THING) as a scheming widow seeking to exploit the estate of her terminally ill husband. Little does she know, however, that her husband is already ahead of the curve... and planning a little ghoulish vengeance of his own! For Dario Argento's Poe adaptation "The Black Cat", Harvey Keitel (RESERVOIR DOGS/ TAXI DRIVER) essays an eccentric photographer obsessed with death and dismay... although eventually his livelihood encourages him to embark on the ultimate crime. However, there is a super-sick sting in the tale that will leave the hapless camera-man literally hollowed-out from head to toe! Auch diese DVD-Ausgabe von BLUE UNDERGROUND lässt – wie zum Glück eigentlich immer – fast keine Wünsche offen! Der Beitrag/Kurzfilm von George A. Romero jedoch leider schon... Ich schreib nur: langweilig. THE BLACK CAT von Dario Argento ist deutlich besser gelungen. Die Story ist zwar auch nicht top, die Aufnahmen, ein Teil der Musik, die meisten Schauspieler (besonders Harvey Keitel – und natürlich der kurze Gastauftritt von Savini *g*) sowie einige der härteren Gore-Effekte von Tom Savini jedoch schon. Insgesamt:
35 Schnitte !!!

Diese Version weist 35 ( !!! ) Schnitte auf. Es fehlen 1 Minute und 48 Sekunden. Na dann Danke für diese Veröffentlichung, die mit 16,99 € ja auch nicht gerade billig ist.

Von Argento und Romero in Anlehnung an Stories von E.A. Poe hätte ich mehr erwartet. Lausige Dialoge, Langeweile bis zum Abwinken und so gut wie kein Tropfen Blut. Gepaart mit schlechter Bildqualität und nur der deutschen Tonspur. Was für eine Geldverschwendung.

Für Sammler empfehlenswert? Super Kurzfilme? Also ich bin (wieder einmal...) ganz anderer Meinung. Für Fans und Sammler ist diese RED EDITION auf keinen Fall interessant! Keine Originaltonspur, praktisch keine Extras... Wenigstens ist die Bildqualität (Widescreen) o.k. und der Inhalt uncut (die italienische Originalfassung wurde verwendet – und nicht einmal so schlecht synchronisiert). Interessierte besorgen sich zum Beispiel die tolle (US) DVD-Version von BLUE UNDERGROUND (hier bei CeDe erhältlich)! Detaillierte Infos zu den beiden Kurzfilmen schreibe ich auch dort... Übrigens: LASER PARADISE hat von TWO EVIL EYES zwei Versionen (mit verschiedenem Cover) veröffentlicht.

es gibt deutlich bessere und spannendere Red Editions. Aber für Sammler und Freaks trotzdem empfehlenswert..
