Invocations was born out of Apollo5's desire to share fragments of their life stories with audiences, and for listeners to discover their 'life music' too. Alongside long-term collaborator Fraser Wilson, each of the group's members hand-picked songs and texts that have emotionally resonated with them over the course of their lives. Whether rooted in memory or nostalgia, charged by moments of pivotal, life-changing significance or ones cloaked by a hazy ambiguity, these musical milestones 'invoke' the personal stories of each singer. The songs selected were subsequently reworked by Fraser into brand new versions, squeezed out of their original forms and reshaped into something distant from the source whilst retaining some element of familiarity. Here, there are tender songs of adoring devotion and catastrophic, cathartic moments of heartbreak, glimpses of fragrant summer reborn and it's inexorable fading, sacred works of humility and secular songs of abundant jubilation and hope. Inevitably, at the heart of almost every song, is that four-letter word: love. Love, in all it's ubiquitous, convoluted and unconquerable wonder.
