Swiss Piano Wonder
Swiss-based piano wonder Brennan really does get around and has more than a dozen releases on various labels, especially Leo Records. The swell Vancouver based couple, Peggy Lee on cello and Dylan on drums, also play in a variety of projects as well and are members of the Now Orchestra and recently worked well with Michael Moore.
'Zero Heroes' was recorded live at the Western Front in Vancouver in March of 2002 and is a collection of solos, duos and trios. Brennan plays both prepared and unprepared piano and melodica on one track. The mysterious sounds begin on the first track with droning cello, inside-the-piano rubbing and bowed percussion, creating a strange dreamscape. "Anyway - was there ever nothing?" is a melancholy and enchanting piece written by Brennan with a nice hypnotic haze.
Brennan's solo offering "Be Flat" is a mesmerizing swirling piece with the pedal work adding a shimmering touch. "Powerful Stranger" is piano/cello duo which features eerie, drifting, droning sounds and distant rumbling inside the piano. This is a thoroughly enchanting journey through the trio's never-ending, slowly unfolding world of sounds. Another treasure from Leo's massive and ever-expanding catalogue.
